Siding Repair in Flower Mound
A few bad boards do not mean a whole wall has to come off. They do mean water is getting in somewhere, and the repair should find out where.

In Brief
Repairs replace individual boards or small areas and fix the cause: a missing flashing, a failed joint, siding sitting on shingles.
The lowest boards on any wall that meets a roof are the first to go.
Fresh boards need primer and paint on every cut edge, or the repair fails the same way.
What Usually Needs Fixing
Bottom boards on a chimney box
A framed chimney box stands on the roof with shingles running into it. Rain runs down four faces and off the cap. If the siding was set tight to the shingles, the bottom courses soak, swell and crumble. The repair is new boards held up off the roof, with the flashing behind them checked or rebuilt.
Where a lower roof ends against a wall
At the end of a porch or garage roof, water running along the wall has to be turned out into the gutter by a small bent flashing. Without it, the water goes behind the siding below, and the damage shows as a stain or soft spot under the roof edge.
Butt joints and corners
Caulk shrinks. Open joints let water at the cut ends of boards, which are their weakest point.
Holes
Hail cracks brittle boards. Woodpeckers open neat round holes, often high on a gable. Either one is a board to replace, not a spot to fill, if the material around it has gone soft.
How a Good Repair Is Done
- Probe around the visible damage to find where sound material starts.
- Remove whole boards back to a joint where possible.
- Check the sheathing and barrier behind; replace what is wet or soft.
- Fix the water path that caused it.
- Prime all faces and cut ends of the new boards before they go up, then caulk and paint.
- Match the reveal, which is the height of board showing, so the patch lines up with the old courses.
A color match on thirty-year-old paint is rarely perfect. Painting the whole wall face corner to corner hides the repair better than touching up around it.
When Repair Stops Making Sense
If boards are failing along a whole wall, or the same material is swollen at every bottom edge, patching becomes a yearly job. That is the point to price replacement of that wall. A contractor should be willing to quote both and say which they would do on their own house.
Questions on This Page
Can you match my existing siding?
A contractor can usually match the board height and get close on texture. Discontinued profiles may need the nearest current one, used on a whole section so it reads as deliberate.
Is swollen siding a structural problem?
The siding itself is cladding. The concern is what has been getting wet behind it, which is why the sheathing gets checked during the repair.
Do roofers repair chimney box siding?
Some do, because it is on the roof and tied to the flashing. Others bring in a siding crew. Mention it on the form.
