Siding Replacement in Flower Mound
Plenty of houses that read as brick from the street have siding higher up. That is where replacement work here tends to be.

In Brief
Replacement means removing old boards down to the sheathing, repairing what is behind, adding a weather barrier and flashing, and hanging new cladding.
This site has no survey of what Flower Mound houses are clad in, so it does not claim a typical mix. Look at your own: gables, the back upper story, dormers, the chimney box.
Siding high on a wall that meets a roof is easiest to replace while the roof is being replaced.
Where to Look on Your House
Gable ends
The triangle of wall under the roof peak, often above brick. High, sun-struck and rarely repainted.
Upper story at the back and sides
On some two-story houses the brick stops partway up the less visible walls.
Dormers
Small walls sitting on the roof itself, flashed into the shingles on three sides.
Chimney boxes
A wood-framed box around a metal flue, clad in siding, standing in the weather on all four faces.
What Wears Siding Out
On a house around thirty years old, the usual story is water at the edges. Boards swell and flake where they sit close to shingles, where a joint has opened, or where paint has failed and bare material has been taking on rain. Composite wood boards from that era are known for swelling at the bottom edge once water gets in. Hail adds chipped paint and cracks on the side of the house that faced the storm.
Because about 40 percent of the town's homes were built in the 1990s, a lot of original siding and trim here is the same age and failing in the same places.
Housing share: American Community Survey 2019 to 2023 five-year estimates for Flower Mound, via Point2Homes, read October 2026. What the cladding is on any given house was not sourced.
What the Job Involves
- Scaffold or pump jacks for upper walls; this is not ladder work.
- Old boards and trim removed, sheathing inspected, soft areas cut out and replaced.
- A weather-resistant barrier over the sheathing, lapped so water runs down and out.
- Flashing at windows, at any roof-to-wall line, and kick-out flashing where a roof edge ends against a wall.
- New siding hung with a gap above the shingles so it does not wick water.
- Joints caulked or flashed per the manufacturer, then paint if the product is not pre-finished.
Material choices are covered on the fiber cement page. If only a few boards are bad, see siding repair.
Rules and Approvals
Whether the Town of Flower Mound requires a permit for siding replacement could not be confirmed; the town's pages would not load for this site and the one local guide read does not mention siding. Ask Building Inspections.
If you are in a homeowners association, material and color changes on the exterior usually need its approval first.
Questions on This Page
Can siding be replaced on just one wall?
Yes. Matching profile and texture to the remaining walls is the challenge, and a full repaint of the house may be needed for color.
Should siding be done before or after the roof?
Where a wall meets a roof, together is best, because the flashing between them is shared. Otherwise roof first, so roofers are not working over new paint.
How long does it take?
A gable or chimney box can be a day or two. Whole upper stories take longer and depend on how much sheathing repair is found.
